Forgot to mention...you have to shoot a LOT of 4X5 film to get enough boxes to
pack 2 or 3 lenses! A bit of a "Catch 22" for a beginning 4X5 photog.

For half a century I have recycled...my 100 sheet 4X5 film boxes. Most
of my lens boards are small enough to fit in them so I wrap the lens on the
board in bubble wrap, rubber band it, put it in the 4X5 film box and snap a
rubber band around it and then place it in my camera case. This has served
me well traveling by air to shoot in Paris, Munich, Milan, Florence and
Tuscany, Rio, Sao Paulo, LA and around the Caribbean. My Cambo lens boards
are bigger so I just use larger boxes but same bubble wrap w/ rubber band in
box with rubber band.
For my Mungo Jerry 360 Symmar for my 8X10, I wrap it in small bubble
wrap and place it (of course, on the lens board) in the original lens box;
the lens board just fits!. I use strong tape to close it. I have only
traveled to 4 countries with my 8X10!
CHEERS!

My next step in this process is transporting the lenses. I have
some pelican cases that look like would be good protection. Right now I am
working with a lens that I don't want to damage, but if I have to damage
one it would be better to mess up this one than a more expensive one later.
A couple of layers of foam, and might even be able to arrange them
vertically so you get every lens and lensboard I would ever expect to own
in one case.
Any thoughts?
Some things I know I wont do. Foam peanuts. What a mess. Bubble
wrap doesn't seem like a good idea either.
