The Oriental Rumor.

The very idea of a manufacturer buying another
manufacturers product, repackaging it under their own
label and selling it... with the true manufacturers
permission, is odd.

Repackaging is common between manufacturers and
distributors but I don't think it is at all common
between two rival manufacturers.

Perhaps someone knows of specific exceptions or
examples... if so they will make interesting reading!

In addition to this Ilford announced it would no longer sell its products
for rebranding by dealers such as Freestyle. The figured out they were
competing with themselves. For years Freestyle sold Ilford film under the
house brand Arista. I don't think they ever sold Ilford paper under this name.
I used a lot of Arista paper and it definitely was not Ilford. I think the
current stuff is made by Kentmere and maybe others also. I looked at Oriental
paper there when shopping a couple of weeks ago. It seems to me the labels
stated it was made in Japan. I don't think its rebranded paper. Freestyle still
has a fair variety of papers.
