WOW now that really is DEEPLY COOL ancestry !!

I think so.
F.E.Ives also invented the process of printing photographs in books,
magazines, and such on both letter press and gravure. You know all those
little dots? He invented three different ways to do this in the late
1800's. He patented the first two, only to get the patents infringed.
Difficult to enforce. So the third process was kept as a trade secret at
the request of his financial backer. That proved to be a mistake. A
competitor hired away one of my great grandfather's workers and it was
not a trade secret anymore.

Ages ago (late 19th century -- 1879) my great grandfather (F. E. Ives)
tried to sensitize the blue-violet sensitive film to longer wave
lengths, because he was trying to invent color photography. I mean it
was known in theory several ways of doing it, but the problem was to
make plates sensitive to all the visible colors.
