There is no observable difference to my eye - and I've shot those lenses
with subjects near- and far.

I have a couple of Artar process lenses (a 14" Red Dot and a 19" APO)
I had put into modern shutters that would argue this point with
you. They are spectacularly sharp and work just fine at infinity.
