Hi,
When I had my color lab, I also had a 3 1/2 gallon line for
internegatives
in a separate room. It was kind of spooky fun as I was next door to a dive
bar and you could hear conversations.

DEAR KEN & TIM,
Way back from the mid 70s until I sold my NYC studio and moved to
film darkroom. I had a careful replenishment regimen. As I went through,
literally, hundreds (and over 1000 some years) of rolls of b&w film (and
many sheets of b&w 4X5) it would have been very financially inefficient to
use anything except a replenished line. After the first few dozen rolls
and replenishing, what was in that tank was only D-76 in name as I am sure
that things had radically changed including build up of bromide ions and
exhausted dev agents. But the results got better with age so neither I nor
my clients complained.

One place I was quite careful was with print dev. If it hit the
used, a very few times I might have saved some to make contact sheets.
Anywhom, replenishing can work.

Noted. I have experiment with using stock to replenish used dev. However,
I cannot comment on the results with any authority because - at the time -
I was using plastic containers for the developer which are porous to O2.
I have since switched over to all brown glass bottles of appropriate size
to avoid O2 in the bottle and permeation into the bottle. *** So, I'd
like to give it another go. However, if doing this substantially undermines
the integrity or behavior of the dev, I shall not bother.
*** Oddly, "appropriate size" turns out to be exactly the size used by
the local craft breweries to provide beer. Far be it from me to not
avail myself of such a supply of goods. The only thing needed -
besides ...
um, "removing" the contents of the containers and then washing them
thoroughly, is replacing the caps with new polycone style caps.
