You realise, of course, that this means war?
Alice Springs is not in Western Australia - it is in the Northern
Territory. The purpose of the boat races on the Todd River are to allow the
locals to drink beer. Apparently this has alcohol in it and it enables them
to feel better about living in the Northern Territory. Some of them do try
to escape to West Australia but they are generally turned back at bayonet
point on the border.
