Here a few months ago, I weighed out the Metol and forgot to add it. Got to test the old addage that Metol does not readily dissolve in sulfite solutions. It will *if* you heat the solution and stir, stir, stir. -----Original Message----- From: pure-silver-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pure-silver-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Philippe Gauthier Sent: Wednesday, November 02, 2005 10:20 AM To: pure-silver@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [pure-silver] Re: Ansco 120 failure Koch, Gerald a écrit : >>From the two symptoms you describe; developer turning dark brown and >being weak in its action, I would suspect you may have forgotten to add >the sodium sulfite when mixing it. > >It's useful to keep a notebook and enter information on each ingredient >as they are weighed out and added. I'm pretty sure I measured the sulfite, though. This was a public experiment and someone commented upon the fact that the same chemical is used to make cheap wine. I almost forgot the carbonate before adding the potassium bromide, but in the end it didn't happen. I use a small electronic scale and tare isn't an issue either.
