Ken, Have you taken a look at the FireVox self-voicing plug-in for FireFox? I'm told it's both fast and very nice and, of course, open source. cdh -----Original Message----- From: programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ken Perry Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2008 2:01 AM To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: WindowEyes Getting Script Language Your correct but the point is if you create a virtual buffer in a better compiled language you won't find it so slow. I know this because I have been playing with web content lately and I can tell you that what they do in Jaws is just short of carving the bible using a chisel and the face of a mountain. Now with that said as you will probably jump up and down and say Pearl is not compiled and will rocket through web content fast as well. This is true but it is made for Text manipulation and I would rather write with pearl and Window-eyes then this mess jaws has. Maybe Gw will pay some of us to help Window-eyes catch up with jaws heck I might write a few just for a free version of Window-eyes if they would give it to me snicker. ken -----Original Message----- From: programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Octavian Rasnita Sent: Monday, February 04, 2008 10:37 PM To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: WindowEyes Getting Script Language Jaws works slow in web apps not because its scripting language is slow, but because it needs to re-create its virtual buffer on every change on that web app, and of course that if the current page is big, it takes much time. But not the Jaws scripts do that, but the core of Jaws. And the core of the web browser, of course. Even without Jaws, a very big page, or one that uses much Javascript is harder to be used, but this is not seen very well when using a mouse. It is cool if Window Eyes will offer good support for scripting in more languages, because it might be easier to find documentation for VB script, or Perl script than for the Jaws' language.
