I used to use dark basic, but I want to learn something else because Dark Basic is only for making games and you can't really make much of any use with it. I see DarkBasic is more geared at beginning programmers and hence sacrifices efficiency in order to create a simpler development workspace. I'm sure most experienced programmers would use something else--something that permits for a little more modularization. This mean that additions, removing or other operations on top of resources mean also recompiling the application. In therms of costs this is very bad. Also if you want make 2 games, but the two games uses same functionality up to an point, let say the registry access part for serialise data, you will end up with two big, fat, .exe files which contains same thing up to a point. so, with all problems, I like the dll/library aproach so for me that language brings no value. More over it brings more costs. ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Montowski <mailto:r_montowski@xxxxxxxxx> To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, February 12, 2010 2:54 AM Subject: Anyone using Dark Basic for game programming? Has anyone heard of or is using a programming language called: dark basic for game programming? I ran across an article on it and then went to the company site to read about it. the company site is: darkbasic.thegamecreators.com they claim this language was written just for beginners to use to make their own game programs. they also claim the finished compiled .EXE is a stand alone file. No .DLL's to worry aobut...no .OCX files either. they claim all your graphics/sounds/music will be compiled into the single .EXE file for later use with your program? there is a download area where you can get sample games other users have made. I did not check out the price of this programming language. I am intrigued with it as the person/team that tried to make a programming language ike this for blind folks never seemed to come across with their project? Robert
