Indentation alerts are a screenreader thing, I would say, not so much
something VS COde can do all that much about, and yes, we do have some
third-party addons that help with this.. I t might be a good idea to add a
page to the accessibility docs that lists some VS Code extensions that
augment VS Code for screen reader users. IndentNav comes to mind, but I
think there's a couple others as well.
I honestly know very little about VS Code with VO, so I'll let others chime
in for now, but will take a quick look at it tomorrow on my mac as well to
see what jumps out at me.

VoiceOver doesn't provide indentation alerts, so that would be one thing
