The Jaws people are not going to use a mirror driver in Windows 8, apparently Microsoft have written some sort of API to get to the OSM but it doesn't give as much feedback as they currently get via the mirror driver. It only provides feedback regarding the window in focus. Below is a link to a presentation done by Eric Damaray of Freedom Scientific in which he refers to the situation. Note it's a long link which sometimes breaks over 2 lines and stops working, so you may need to copy and paste it and join the bits together to make it work. http://www.accessibleworld.org/sites/default/files/tt-10-15-12-eric-damery-j aws-14.mp3 Cheers Chris -----Original Message----- From: program-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:program-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Kerneels Roos Sent: 22 October 2012 08:11 To: program-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [program-l] Re: Preventing JAWS 14 beta from changing the screen resolution and color scheme to Windows 7 Basic Thanks Andy. The actual problem I'm having is that JAWS does something that causes the Windows Magnifier to stop working in full screen mode. In order to have the Windows Magnifier work the way I need it to work I have to use an Aero Win7 theme - Aero has to be on. I've researched it a bit further and found out that in Win7 there are two display models; the old XP Display Model (XDM) and the new Windows Display Model (WDM). Software that require a Display Mirror Driver such as JAWS requires the old XDM which by the way is thrown out in Windows 8 - so FS would have to build a mirror driver for WDM then to get that kind of functionality on Windows 8. What it means for anyone that want to use JAWS and a little bit of screen magnifier features, such as color inversion and some basic magnification for now and then use, is: 1. You would have to get JAWS to work with WDM, possibly through a new type of mirror driver so that you can use the Windows Magnifier which is sufficient for some people. 2. You would have to find some free full screen magnifier program that works with XDM and then just not use WDM and Aero themes. Anyone know of a decent free or inexpensive XDM capable magnifier program for Win7 that can at least invert the screen, and optionally provide minimal magnification? I'm going to try lightening express now.
