Ah Ha! I'm delighted to see this posting, David.

In my case, it has absolutely NOTHING to do with JAWS, yet
this whole issue of window focus has been plaguing me for
some time.

I am seeing more and more applications where dialogs may or
may not come up hidden behind other applications, yet I
cannot find any consistency.

I shall be interested to see what answers you get from FS on
this.

George.

Subject: [program-l] JAWS 8.0 and Active Windows

Hi all,

I'm experiencing something a bit irritating, and thought I'd
like to hear if anyone else is getting it before I report it
to FS.

Since installing and running JAWS 8.0, I find that starting
applications very often results in the new window opening
behind the currently active one. As I didn't think JAWS
should be in a position to affect such behaviour, I was
loathe to blame it. But switching back to JAWS 7.0, I found
the behaviour stopped completely. Resuming use of JAWS 8.0
has brought the problem back again.

A simple example is starting the Windows calculator. I
assigned a shortcut key of ctrl+alt+C to start it, and when
running JAWS 8.0, hitting that key almost always results in
the calculator window opening behind the active window. Yet
when I do the same while running JAWS 7.0, it always opens
on top as the active window.

Has anybody else observed this? And if it isn't a JAWS
problem, does anybody have any suggestions as to what might
be causing it?

Thanks.
