Thank you very much for all your responses for helping me solve this problem that has been bugging me since 2009!
As Herbert Voss just pointed out, the 'nopsheader' was the culprit. Otherwise I can keep everything else in the \documentclass. Thank you Fabrice for arriving at the same conclusion. Have no idea why I kept 'nopsheader': It just stayed there since I first learned powerdot in 2008 and as it was working fine with TL 2008, I never thought of removing it later.
Yes it is now working well also with TL 2011 (I have just updated everything from CTAN yesterday).
I use WinEdt and there is no 'variable page size' but it is now just a matter of playing with the options in WinEdt until I get the desired page layout.
And my best wishes to you all for a great new year 2012. Kind regards, Yogeshwarsing On 12/30/2011 9:50 AM, Patrice MÉGRET wrote:
Dear Y.Calleecharan, Your sample file compiles perfectly if I remove 'nopsheader' in the options of \documentclass. I used TexLive 2010 + Ghostview 4.9 (GS 9.04 and pdfwrite) to convert into pdf. Don't forget to check 'Variable Page Size' to get the right size in the pdf (otherwise you get A4 pages on which your screen pages are displayed ). The file defense.tex can also be downloaded from http://petitlien.fr/dvi (The defense.dvi at the above link was made from the full file and not from this minimal tex file) \documentclass[size=10pt,mode=present,paper=screen,letterpaper,landscape,english,nopsheader,style=aggie,display=slides]{powerdot} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsmath} \begin{document} \begin{slide}[toc=,bm=]{Overview} \tableofcontents[content=sections] \end{slide} %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% \section{Background} %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% \begin{slide}{Motivation} \begin{itemize} \pause \item These eccentricities and the phenomenon of \textcolor{red}{unbalanced magnetic pull} (UMP) mutually affect each other\\[3.7mm] \pause \item The present work has as aims to give insights on the dynamics' behaviours of the UMP, a phenomenon known for over 100 years \end{itemize} \end{slide} %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% \begin{slide}[toc=The UMP]{More about the unbalanced magnetic pull$\ldots$} \onslide*{1}{ \begin{itemize} \item The UMP has two components: A \textcolor{red}{radial} component and a \textcolor{red}{tangential} one\\[3.7mm] \end{itemize} } \onslide*{2}{ \begin{itemize} \item The UMP has two components: A \textcolor{red}{radial} component and a \textcolor{red}{tangential} one\\[3.7mm] \end{itemize} } \end{slide} \end{document} The above works fine with TeXLive 2008 when compiling to DVI, PS and PDF. But it doesn't work with TexLive 2011 (updated as of Dec 29, 2011). I have never been able to make it work with TeXLive 2010 also. Would anyone kindly show me how to process this tex file to get the right PS and right PDF files. I've tried virtually all commands that I could on the command line with TexLive 2011/2010 but was never successful. Thank you very much. So I keep my TeXLive 2008 to create my presentations in powerdot. Here is a link to a DVI file (defense.dvi) that I produced in powerdot.: http://petitlien.fr/dvi (The link will expand to a Guest account in GMX). Can someone test with commands at the command prompt (dvips and ps2pdf) if one can produce correct PS and PDF files? I have tried but without any success. Thank you.
