1. I prefer #1 the way it is worded. Rory’s proposed change seems
unnecessary. What would be the point of having inappropriate practices aids?

3. As with the practice materials, why on earth would anyone acting as our AD
even consider choosing inappropriate music for the chorale? If our AD’s
judgment is so poor as to do that, then we, the Board, are guilty of gross
incompetence for hiring her in the first place. I think “appropriate” is
unnecesary
4. The AD job description is a listing of the tasks the AD is required to do,
and not a listing of what others, i.e. the Board, do. Our role in the
selection process is covered by “…with input from the Board of Directors.” We
don’t need to list our specific tasks in this job description.
5. I can go either way on #15, but I’m leaning towards leaving it in.
Rory, your proposed changes #1-4 all sound as if you distrust Deirdre to do
her job properly, you expect that she will either willfully or inadvertently
misbehave, and therefore, in anticipation of her misbehavior, you want to add
unnecessary controls to the JD. I think doing that would be inappropriate on
our part, not to mention insulting to Deirdre. We should not be viewing this
as “Deirdre’s” job description, but rather as the “Artistic Director’s”
jobdescription. As I said in my comments: I agree with Deirdre's comments
re: removing any particulars that describe how to do a task and putting them
into a policy manual. I believe it should be written so that it will make
sense to any potential job applicants in the future, and not specific to
Deirdre.
Can we get this agreed on today, please, so I can finalize it?

I have actually suggested only a few small changes to what Linda wrote.

4. Make it clear who set's David's salary (5)
5. Remove "acknowledging an underlying spirituality that comes in a

Note that I am OK with (2) as it stands, so long as it is clear that
having the "titles" in advance for all practical purposes means having
the sheet music, since titles can be downloaded and sheet music printed
in very short order. If that is NOT what Deirdre is saying (I found her
comments to be confusing, to say the least -- see my note) then I would
require further clarification.
