As with any major change to a computer be sure you're protected from any unforseen disasters. (Up to date backup, set a restore point, update anti malware and virus software before downloading anything and so on and so on) Remove the Dell: Unplug the printer from the computer Navigate to Device Manager and the Dell printer device driver Double click on the driver to open properties then click the driver tab and click on Uninstall Optional: Navigate to the various software installed for use with the printer and uninstall it. Turn off the computer. ******************* Install the HP printer Connect the printer to the computer and plug it in to the electical source. Turn on the computer and log in Windows will see the new hardware and give you the opportunity to tell it where to go to find the driver. Tell Windows where to go. Reboot the computer. Optional method: Turn on the computer Insert the disk that came with the printer into the optical drive. Installation should begin automatically. Follow the prompts. Turn off or reboot if necessary. Connect the printer. If installation does not start automatically, navigate to setup.exe and double click it. If you do not have the disk or if Windows can not find the driver, go to the HP website and download the latest installation/driver package available, then tell Windows where you saved it at the appropriate prompt. Note 1: This may be a self-extracting compressed file. If so double click on it to extract before you tell Windows where to go. Note 2: This may be an executable installation program. If so double click on it and let it do its job. Note 3: You can select Run instead of Save during the download process to simplify dealing with Notes 1 and 2.
