You are describing the Windows XP Welcome screen.
If you suddenly went from logging straight in to now windows requiring you
to login - I'd say you probably recently installed the Microsoft .Net
framework. It could also have been installed by another program.
I would go to windows update, choose custom install and download all .Net
related updates.

When .Net is first installed it requires all users to login.
Once you have updated .Net with the 1.1 update it goes back to login you
straight in without having to click your name.

I am pretty sure nothing got installed.
I do know pretty much how AOL works (had it a longgg time ) and when they do

install something you get a message.

It does appear to be a windows screen. I have seen it before when I have
accidently hit a control or shift something. It will appear and you click it
and
it goes off and you dont see it again.

If you can tell me how to do a screen capture I will do it and send it.
