Sounds like really good advise for those who know what to look for.  I don't 
so I just tell it to repair and hopefully it does what it is supposed to do. 
I do use Registry Mechanic and have not had any problems that I am aware of.
I was dismayed to hear of problems with Registry Mechanic.  It is not a free 
application and has to be renewed every year.  I may have wasted my money.
