Hiya Betty and thanx for the "welcome back".  Any rumors you heard of my 
demise were greatly exaggerated.       :O)

The best way I can describe the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit 
computing is probably not to describe it at all.  I would most likely end up 
writing a short book about it.      lol

Instead, here's a site that gives a short overview that might just be what 
you're after.  If you need more, let me know and I'll find some more 
extensive descriptions for ya.
