You did fine Wendy.

Now that I have a better description of your hardware let's see if I can help
you find the problem.

The 'good' computer seems to be working correctly, the other one 'bad' computer
seems to have lost it's communications. Your configuration is simular to mine.
That internet sharing 'box' is most likely a router/switch combination.

Assuming NO hardware or software changes were made since the last time it was
working, all you did was shut the power off for a while and when you started it
back up it doesn't see the network.

Note: If you disconnected the network cable fromthe 'bad' machine Please double
check that it is plugged into the CORRECT port on the machine. Note that the
ethernet connector looks almost exactly like a telephone connector and that
plugging the ethernet
cable into the phoneline modems jack will also cause these symptoms.

Assuming the cable is plugged into the 'bad' computers NIC correctly, then
either the computer/nic, cable, or internet sharing box have a problem. Since
your not very experienced with this will start with the simple stuff. I assume
the internet sharing box
has several ethernet connectors on it, 1st thing to try is shutdown both
machines, then at the internet sharing box unplug both cables from the
computers, swap them around and plug them back in. (The idea here is to make
sure both ports of the sharing box
are working) strat the computers up and see if the 'good' one still works, also
see if the 'bad' one now works. If both now work then problem was a poor
connection.

If the good one still works then the sharing box is not the problem. If the
'good' one doesn't work but the 'bad' one now works the sharing box is probably
misconfigured or defective.

Assuming there was no change it would be time to investigate your 'bad'
computers NIC configuration. One thing you might do is compare it's properties
to the 'good' computers NIC properties. If you don't have the same NIC's in
both machine or you don't
have the same OS on both there will be some descrepencies. What you might do is
check the bad ones properties, make notes and post the configuration so I / we
can try to guide you here.
