Roger,

A powered hub plugs into the computer via USB cable and also plugs into a 
convenient electrical outlet.  Data flows to your device from the computer 
and the power flows from the wall socket.

The only specs you really need to worry about is USB 2.0.

A decent one should run about 20 bucks or so.
