OK, I really need some help here. I have two cables. One is a switchbox cable, 25 conductor, straight thru, Male Serial / Parallel cable. The other has what looks like what is used by my cable internet on both ends. (Network cable?) <both are borrowed> The new pc is xp home. It is now setup on the cable internet. The old is win 98. It's sitting on the floor here next to me, running, not hooked up to the cable internet. (I don't have a hub either in case you are wondering.) At this point, I'm just wanting to transfer data and was told I could do it without a hub. Anyway, If I unplug the cable internet from the new computer that I just set up, and put that 'network' cable hooked up to both computers, well, it's not going thru the cable modem. I understand that. What I don't get is how to get the files from win 98 pc to the xp home pc. I tried various things, and I don't know, it seemed to think it wanted to be online?? I don't really know. I just know I didn't get files transferred and the pc's don't see each other. Ok, so I plugged it back into the cable internet. That is working. I plugged the other cable serial/parallel ends into both computers. I don't know how to make them see each other this way either. I need more steps here to help me if someone doesn't mind. Please. And thanks. Re-Na Hanson / Arkansas USA ps, as you can see, my new pc arrived. : ) Regards, John Durham (list moderator) <http://modecideas.com/contact.html?sig> Freelists login at //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi List archives at //www.freelists.org/archives/pchelpers PC-HELPERS list subscribe/unsub at http://modecideas.com/discuss.htm?sig Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
