I've got about 1250 pics and short videos, most in JPG format, which
take up only about 416MB. I'd say just leave them in whatever the
original format is, unless there's a need to save space. Every time a
picture is converted, data is lost.
If scanning, try to save to a lossless format just as BMP or TIFF,
unless, you need to save space.
