I can transpose from C to B flat very easily, just read a note higher and add 2 sharps. Therefore, the cheat sheets, fake books that are in C will be no problem for my B flat trumpet and is obviously no problem for the keyboards. Most fake books have the chord which can help the Bass player. I have hundreds of 32 bar cheat sheats with the melody and chords that I can xerox for others to read. I agree, we need to know exactly who is coming and who is playing what. I can play trumpet, keyboard, and bass. I think it would be fun for those who play multiple instruments to switch off with others. If I play half the time and just listen half the time that will be fine. John plays accordian but doesn't read music, he plays by ears so he will probably be able to play some songs he is familiar with, like holiday songs and polkas but may want to sit out on some he doesn't know. Also I have a tamborine, marachas, clavas, bongos, and other rhythm instruments that some PAS people may want to try on some latin songs we can play. I will get together some sheet music and bring it to the Dec 6th PAS meeting to give to Terri and Ed and Bruce. If they think some of them are ok, they can make copies or I can make copies. I understand that Ed has some Jewish songs like Ha Va Na Gila (bad spelling). Any fake book songs or cheat sheets Ed and Bruce and Terri want to bring is fine also. Plus anyone in PAS can bring music and we can try it, just try to have it in C with chords and make extra copies. -----Original Message----- From: Terri <cosmicstarstuff@xxxxxxxxx> To: pasmembers <pasmembers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Fri, Nov 9, 2012 11:43 am Subject: [pasmembers] Music Jam Dec 22 at Mike's home in Carefree with potluck Tim, That's kinda what i was asking.. Can those who wish to play in the Jam, transpose or use Treble or Bass clef music? So, the question is: what is needed for those who can't do just normal G clef, or Treble clef and F clef or Bass clef written music? My Dad and Bruce are willing to do the transposing, but we need to know now... can't wait until December gets here to have time to do this. And I'm not familiar with enough instruments to know what the tuning would be for some of the instruments you would find in an orchestra, for example. Saxaphone - i know many saxophones have different tunings and I believe you read from differently written music, but I"m not sure about those. I don't play or teach the sax. Bruce does... so he would know... Sorry to hear, Tim, that you can't make it to this first Jam. Maybe the next one will be more on a date you can attend. Enjoy your trip and thanks for the input. More input is apprecaited. Terri Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you always know they are there. Terri Phoenix Astronomical Society Event Coordinator Visit the P.A.S. The real question is one of transposition - If you're just looking at C instruments - Piano, normally tuned guitar and bass, Flute, Xylophone, or megaphone (voice), you'll need more that the simple song-book sheet music. Alto Sax is Eb, Tenor Sax, Clarinet, Trumpet are all Bb... Unless Sam can sight-transpose or has a C Piccolo Trumpet, his music will need to be transposed for a Bb instrument. Since music is what I did before I became an engineer, I thought I'd at least remind you of that little issue :-). Sorry I can't be there, but It's still not possible to be on 2 continents (let alone 2 cities) at the same time.
