Ah, queen excluder. Yes. We frown on those but they are undeniably useful
if you want some honey. I rechecked my potentially honey yielding Warre
yesterday. By golly there are now *more* brood in the top box than a few
days ago, they're meant to be out of there by now! I'll need to wait a bit
longer to get that harvested, or maybe wait 'til Spring now.
BTW my bees are madly busy (flying) in the rain. I assume the plants are
offering a nectar splurge now it's raining for the first time in a week, so
it's all hands on deck to pack it in. Our holly tree was buzzing so loudly
I thought there might be a swarm up there (it flowered months ago) - but
it's insects gorging on the ivy threaded through it.
