Hi, there, Sue. From what I understand, a lot of people experience lots of
actual pain because the gallbladder is trying to squeeze the stones into the
common bile duct, which it shares with the pancreas. I’ve had tenderness on my
right side just below the ribs, but I haven’t had so much in the way of pain,
apparently because the stones are too big to get into the duct. The
gallbladder just continues to squeeze up around the stones, making me very
tender and very nauseous. I’ve been fooling around with this darn thing for
the past 17 years now, getting a gallbladder infection every four years or so.
It has hospitalized me twice now. When it happened again last August, and the
surgeon told me that she could remove the gallbladder in spite of the fact that
I no longer have a belly button, I told her I’d like to get it done and over
with. Besides, this last time, I guess I was jaundiced, and they thought a
smaller stone had developed, and was obstructing the passage of bile. They put
a camera down my throat to check things out, but the G.I. specialist said he
only found what he called sludge. I was supposed to have the gallbladder
removed in early December, but I was just returning home from training with my
new guide dog then, and I thought it would have been just a little too hectic,
so I postponed it until February 27. I hope that wasn’t too much information,

Thanks, Linda and everyone. Your prayers will be very much appreciated. I’m a
bit nervous about it, but then, who isn’t when it comes to surgery? As far as
friends go, I feel very blessed to have made new friends since moving here to
Peterborough five years ago about now. The two people who will help Frankie
and me get through the first few days after the operation are people I met
through the Peterborough New Horizons Band. I have three sisters currently
living in Ottawa, which is about 4 hours’ drive northeast of here, but they’re
76, 79, and 92 years old respectively, and travelling here isn’t nearly as easy
now as it once would have been. Even the youngest of those three is ten years
older than I am. So yes, I’m very blessed to have friends here. I’ll no doubt
be in touch with everyone before the surgery, and I can’t imagine why I won’t
be able to drop the odd note fairly soon afterwords. Devon.

surgery, but aside from the pain caused by the air that they pump in, I
understand that this won�t be too painful. If all goes well, they will only
have to make four small incisions. I have a friend who will stay with me that
first night, and then I understand that a nurse will be checking in with me
once a day. Frankie would be more than happy to keep an eye on my incisions,
but the best he could do for me would be to lick them, and I�m not sure that
that would be a good idea, especially if his tongue just came from, lol.
