I'm so sad and very upset as well. I was so happy for Ed when his house was set
on his foundation and he was able to give me a tour of his beautiful new place
last week.
I agree with Megan and I've emailed Governor Polis, Senator Bennett,
Congressman Neguse earlier today as well as emailed the Boulder County
Treasurer's office to see how folks have dealt with this in the past. They
likely have had this situation come up before. I appreciate that the BoCo
treasurer, Paul Weissmann contacted Ed to let him know of this situation. I'll
send responses to Maggi. I hope I haven't mis stepped; apologies if I have.

The gentleman you described at 4th & William is Ed Sharp, one of my best
friends in town for as long as we’ve both lived there (only 48 yrs for me). I
loved his wife Ruby who passed about a year before the fire, and his son Roland
still comes over to help out. We sometimes shared help & car parts in our
respective “dream shops” and stories galore with ol Danny too. Yes, he does
have a great attitude & I’m so glad he’s gotten started on his rebuild.

Since the new year, I am increasingly seeing signs of progress in Original
Town! I did notice, just in the last couple of weeks, all kinds of diggers and
workers seem to be crawling all over Daryl and Bob McCool's and Ross and Kathy
Morgan's properties. There are many more OTers showing progress; I am sorry I
don't know names. Congratulations to all!
If you haven't driven through OT in a while, do take a little tour--it will
make your heart swell with hope for OT renewal. And Sagamore's homes are
popping everywhere like excited, wide-eyed prairie dogs. It is just so good to
see life and love coming back into our community.
About 10 days ago, my pooch Lucy and I for the first time since the fire went
out walking on our circuitous route through open space, Coal Creek Crossing.
and OT, like we used to before the fire. I met a gentleman, age 80, who told
me he had lived on his property at the corner of 4th and Williams (i think it
was) for 50 years. He was watching a couple small diggers beginning work on
his foundation. I didn't get his name, but I told him I remembered walking by
his "retired gentleman's Shangri-La"--with a dream shop for puttering, always a
good garden growing, and cozy little white house with mature trees in the yard.
That was all gone now of course, but I congratulated him on his
ground-breaking, and told him that I was sorry he wouldn't have that same
little Shangri-La that he used to have. He responded by simply saying, "I
can't live in the past; I can only move into the future." What a remarkable
comment from an 80 year old! He still lifts my spirits everytime I think about
him saying that.
The OT email list has gone quiet for a while. Perhaps folks are communicating
in other ways. I do hope everyone is finding their way forward, whatever that
path may be. I only wanted to wish everyone good cheer and hope for a new
fresh start on your next life chapters! My little Lucy pooch and I hope to see
more of you out there this spring and summer!
