I have this now... I was fighting a fight where I was being told it could be
done when deep down inside I knew they did not give me what I asked for.
(Originally it was domain admin, then settled on domain account that could run
on all machines as administrator). However, the accounts I received were
not... of course as the domains where spelled differently. So since its been 8
years and I was spooling from sqlplus and had a time limit I got stuck on why
oracle on the same account could not see the drive.
Somewhere through all this and with your help I realized why I just simply ask
for the domain admin in the first place automagically. I just didn't remember
all the details -- (Oracle recommends a domain administrator --Note 145843.1).

Now that 'they' have come around, it is still to late to implement that in time
(change control, etc), so a little batch file will go with it to do the copy to
local, and then come back to it as they have agreed to make it happen.

Thanks for everyones help.

The J:\ drive is a shared drive on the source computer by an administrator on
the source computer. The mapping to J: was done on the dest computer using
the credentials of the source computer.
Thanks Jeff... but the parameter still exists and should be able to serve as an
example like any other parameter you can set to point to a drive. This one
points to %ORACLE_HOME%\RDBMS. What parameter can I use instead? It is
standard edition so no data guard.
I have tried all combinations of using J: or just UNC
The mapping looks like this in Explorer, with the drive last
<archivedir>(\\machinename)(J:)<file:///\\machinename)(J:)>

This doesn't answer your question, but my 11.2 docs state the parameter is
deprecated and retained for backward compatibility only.
