note 337413.1 does not seem to explain why I can read/write the share with the same account with sqlplus but yet not set this parameter from the same session. I know it is deprecated, but it should still work unless I can use another and set it. The source is writing to a local drive that is shared with everyone for the moment. The dest is simply mapped to it as archdir(\\machine)(J:). I have looked up the syntax.
