suggests that it is not needed for opatch. That's not quite the same as an
answer to "is there a use for this file," but at least we can know that
it's not needed for patching.
The doc suggests the following to exclude the file from unzipping:
unzip -d <GI HOME> p6880880_121010_Linux-x86-64.zip -x PatchSearch.xml

patch's folder. So, each time I unzip a downloaded patch to my patch
staging folder, that file gets overwritten.
Is there a use for this file? Is it a problem if it exists for another
patch other than the one I'm currently installing or deinstalling [sic]?
