Back in the 7.0, maybe 8.0 days, it wasn't a big deal to create a
database manually. Today, w/ 11gR2, 12cR1, there's just a lot of
options to consider, too many really, to remember from memory. And
really, how much value is there in learning and memorizing all that
syntax?

I totally concur. Reading the DBCA generated script is often an
eye-opener.
But the possibility of either forgetting something and the opportunity
to debug a hand-coded script does not hold any major appeal any more.
