Yep - I realize I didn't make that clear.
For each test, I run dbms_pool.purge with the address/hash values of the
previous queries.

I would hope that you would see the same as the cursor should not have been
invalidated. You'd need to go to your pool flushing thread to make 'er go
bye-bye first, or was that implied?
