Why not build a standby database and do the switch? It should be easy to
restore the datafile backup from production, to the ASM disks with rman;
and just do a graceful switchover, and it is done!

 I don't know about using dd, but export/import would work if you have the
space. IF these are 10g databases, you can use the database_link option and
copy the schemas directly using datapump (a real nice solution)…

Folks

What could be the approach to Convert a Large *3 TB* NON-RAC
*Production*Database with Datafiles existing on cooked/Mounted Filesystem (
*UFS*) to a 3 instance RAC using "*ASM"*?

NOTE – Production Database is Near 24*7 with Minimal Downtime.

*Can the Datafiles be copied using "dd" Command from the Mounted FS to the
RAW Device Space of ASM?*

* *

*Need the basic approach Steps for conversion.*

* *

*Any Docs, pointers, Links will help. (*Did search Oracle Documentation,
but could NOT find a practical *Hands-On Note*)

Config:-

---------

Solaris 10

Oracle 10gR2

3 instance RAC

Thanks indeed
