Shared $APPL_TOP for Rac Servers

I have been looking for documents on how to set up a shared Appl Top for our
Rac / ASM environment for 12i from a storage perspective.
This would be Oracle unbreakable Linux, Dell servers and EMC san storage.
Any docs, tip or tricks is appreciated.
