=20 would be the MIME escape sequence for representing a space character if
you needed to escape the space character. Why every single space would be
escaped in this way beats me, and I don't understand why, if the message
was properly marked as being MIME encoded, the =20 sequences wouldn't be
turned back into spaces at the other end. It certainly does slow down
listening to those of Nick's messages that are riddled with "equals twenty"
sequences.

Jerry

Nick,
I believe the = 20 comes from folks who are using a Linux editor which puts
this code at the end of each line. Those who use these editors are not
aware of the symbols tagged on. Perhaps it uses a different character set.
It is not too difficult to ignore. In JAWS you can program your dictionary
to speak a space character for that sequence; you probably can do the same
with Window Eyes, but I don't use that, so I am not sure.

Wonder why when I send to this list I get this "equals 20" garbage. It's
the only list where this happens, and I'm using plain text with
"pmmail2000".
