The current frequencies for 5 GHz WiFi are:
5.15 to 5.35 GHz
5.47 to 5.85 GHz
5 GHz WiFi has been available since 1999 with 802.11a. The current
802.11ac is /only/ on 5 GHz.
802.11p is at 5.85 to 5.925 GHz

Thanks John
I forgot that 802.11p uses a band at 5.59 GHz.
Not sure what, if any, correlation there is with the new frequencies the FCC
authorized for the LTE-WiFi tests.

2. Even if the answer to #1 were no, which I'm sure it isn't, these intrusive
base stations can only reduce the number of WiFi access points possible.
What is intrusive about new base stations operating in spectrum that is not
currently used for Wi-Fi? Opening up new unlicensed spectrum for new hybrid
LTE-Wi-Fi applications sounds like a win-win to me.
But 5 GHz is currently used for Wi-Fi. I'm looking at my Xfinity wireless
gateway right now on my iPhone, and it offers both a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz Wi-Fi
signal.
