[opendtv] TV Guide's new look

This seems like a good list to air my grievances on TV Guide.

Amid much hoopla, TV Guide next week introduces it's new
large format. Fine and good, as far as that goes. When The
Absolute Sound did something similar, some years ago, at
least they were up front about the reason. It was to save on
printing costs. TV Guide instead pretends this is an exciting
change.

Fair enough. What they didn't tell us is that the magazing
has morphed from something useful (local broadcast listings,
including the VCR+ code) to just another fluff magazine for
teenage girls.

I was astounded. There are no local listings anymore. The
best they offer is a grid of network *prime time only* shows,
generic so can apply nationwide. And if, during prime time, a
local broadcaster has programming that doesn't apply
nationwide, the best TV Guide can do is to say "local
programming."

Talk about useless. Furthermore, if you want to use the VCR+
codes, they tell you to search for them on line. Which means,
you go to TV Guide on line, then search under the *individual*
show to find the code. Which genius came up with that idea? I
thought these codes were suppose to make life easier.
Searching on a show by show basis for the code is ludicrous.

But they did have *one* good idea. They made it remarkably
easy to cancel the subscription. There's a 800 number you can
call, listed inside the fron cover, and in the first tier of
menu choices there is "cancel my subscription." Guess how I
know?

Broadcasters ought to be pissed about this one. Luckily, the
listings can be gotten from other sources. Perhaps PSIP will
solve this more convincingly.
