"You could use a Blu-ray player and Joe Kane's "Video Essentials" (and
similar from Stacy Spears, etc.) as and HDMI/YPbPr test generator in the
$150 range." --Kilroy

"A circle wipe from a production switcher will tell you if the aspect is
being
squished." --John Shutt

Both excellent ideas. In fact, I have also used the CG (Chyron PCcodi in
the past but now we have Harris Inscriber in the new studio) to generate
test signals. I need to do some tweaking and testing to verify
particulars, especially for checking level and color gradients. And
importing some specially made graphics might work. The new CG should do
well for forms such as circles.

And I do have a Blu-Ray and the "Video Essentials" Blu-Ray .

Since we will be primarily delivering our programming via internet
streaming, I have tried to keep 100% of the picture area in mind within the
production. But with the overscanning monitors, the safe title and safe
action will still need to be maintained. It sounds like safe action would
be roughly 5%.
