Agreed, someone on the WMTalk list would probably know what the upgrade path
is.

But to answer your other question, there seems to be a lot of cool things in
the upgrade. The broadcast flag is an issue, for sure, but that will affect
all new PVR's equally. Consumers won't hold on to outdated hardware
forever, and the functionality that you get with a fully blown PC rather
than a standalone PVR is incredible, so there will be a lot of upgrades.

Some compromises will need to be made on both sides - and I believe that
broadcasters will bow to market pressure and will pretty much allow
everything EXCEPT for commercial skipping.

Dirk, isn't that a question for the WMTalk list that we're both on? And,
since the upgrade will have the broadcast flag, why would you opt for that?

I dumped my Tivo in the trash a few months ago and bought an MCE box - and
of course, they immediately announce a new version of Media Center.

Anyone know if there will be an upgrade path to MCE 2005?

This is somehow surprising to you? The alternative is that Media Center PCs
would not be able to offer broadcast media (or would be removed from the
U.S. market) on July 1, 2005.

Do you actually think about these things? Or, do you simply react?

How wonderful. Windows Media Center will now honor the broadcast flag.
