Helissio Technologies was demonstrating 1280 x 720 x 24p at 1 Mbps at NAB and 1280 x 720 x 60p at 1.6 Mbps, both using H.264 with extensive pre-processing. The images were not artifact free, but the artifacts were of a nature that might not bother most viewers. They were cetainly more pleasant than the artifacts of Modulus Video's 1080i at 5.5 Mbps via H.264. H.264 is pretty new. I look forward to the sorts of improvements we saw in MPEG-2 over the years.
