I have a Panasonic dmc fz 200 and my older Fuji hs50exr. I usually carry
them both. The manual zoom of the fuji and speed of shooting is great for
the field, but when the subject is being more cooperative, I love my
panasonic for the detail and color that it captures. Not bird related, but
the panasonic with my raynox 250 does the best macro work

consider the newest model, the Lumix FZ300. While other point and
shoot bridge cameras have more zoom (50x, 60x, or even 84x (like the Nikon
P900), the FZ300 can maintain F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range.
This will usually yield a better photo, since you can use a lower iso or
faster shutter speed. It only has 24x optical zoom, which is low for a
bridge camera. but it also has what Panasonic calls Intelligent Zoom. I
use this in addition to optical zoom, and find that photos up to 36x zoom
often still look pretty good.
I looked at the Nikon P900 recently, and was impressed with the 83X zoom.
If you go back and forth between the viewfinder and the LCD screen, you'll
like the Nikon. It has an eye proximity sensor, and swithes automatically
to viewfinder mode when you put your eye up to it. The Lumix doesn't have
that feature. As much as I like the long zoom and eye sensor of the
Nikon, I'd still get the FZ300 because of the constant F2.8. What I
really want to find is a bridge camera with at least a 1" sensor, 50-60x
optical zoom, constant 2.8 while zooming, and a viewfinder with an eye
sensor.
