I used to have the Canon PowerShot SX40, but I switched to the Panasonic Lumix
DMC-FZ200, then recently to the FZ300 and have been very pleased by the quicker
focus time, and shorter time between shots.
But best of all are the much sharper pictures, thanks to the Panasonic’s Leica
lens that is F2.8 throughout the entire zoom, which means that it lets in a lot
of light even when zoomed.
Also, the excellent view finder on the FZ300 allows you to find the bird much
easier and faster when you aim the camera.
I thought I would miss the Canon’s 840mm zoom when I switched to the
Panasonic’s 600mm zoom, but the photo quality is so much better that it is
worth it. Also, the Panasonic does have a digital zoom mode that lets you zoom
in even further for diagnostic shots, and that often comes in handy to get a
look at a bird beyond what you can distinguish with binoculars.
