I agree with Lars Norgren's posting (on the statewide birding list,
OBOL) that this topic would be better to take up on the new
"alternative" statewide birding list, BOO:

which Treesa Hertzel kindly set up to allow more wide-ranging
discussions of issues that are relevant for Oregon birders.
I have no objection to people discussing this topic -- hopefully in a
constructive way -- on the Midvalley birding list, but in my view this
is a statewide issue, so a statewide discussion where regional
perspectives can be shared makes more sense.
As many folks know, I have some viewpoints on this, generally supportive
of the idea that birders should be contributing via some type of
identifiable revenue stream. But if anyone was hoping for a long-winded
posting, I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you ;-) ... too much else to
do. However I'll look forward to following the discussion on BOO.
