Today Matt Hunter and I birded Winchester Bay. We started off with a
sea-watch where Matt spotted and put me on a lone BLACK-VENTED SHEARWATER
that was heading south. It passed right in front of the north jetty where
we got good looks.

We then headed to some regular Winchester Bay spots where I re-paid the
favor of getting a lifer by putting Matt on a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW. He
realized that he owed me "bigtime" after this, but I told him I wouldn't
hold it over his head.

We then headed to a very tidy, and neat, park in Reedsport called
Bicentennial Park, which is located here:43.695466, -124.128472
It has a sheltered path that runs next to a small creek with lots of nice
coastal plants, or something, I'm not sure. Matt tried to repay his debt
with a lesson on coastal botany but I ignored him.

On our way out of town we stopped by Stables Road where I indebted him to
me even more by pointing out a "SLATE-COLORED JUNCO." He kept claiming that
we were even, and I could drop the matter, but I just shook my head,
knowingly, with the wisdom afforded by my years, and a knowing, Buddha-like
smile on my face. Maybe one day he will return the favor, but in my book,
two sparrows are greater than one tubenose. It's simple math folks.

Good Birding
