Jamie beat me to the punch - I was going to mention that I saw my first
Oregon Brown Thrasher at that same lady's home with a small group of
birders during an Audubon Society of Corvallis field trip that I co-lead
with Rich Hoyer. This was on February 18, 1989 (the bird obviously stuck
around for a while), and Mrs. Lowery invited all of us into her living
room, served us tea and cookies, and was overjoyed when the thrasher
finally put in an appearance after we had all but given up hope of seeing
it. A most gracious hostess, and a memorable chase - my first "feeder
chase" in Oregon.
I am always amazed by the generosity and goodwill of Oregon homeowners who
host a rare bird and happily accommodate a flood of visiting birders!
