*SAS Minto-Brown Island Park Bird Walk Report*
Five (5) birders joined Fred, Kay and Tim for a bird walk that took in the
North end of the park extending to near the new bridge connecting to
Riverfront Park. We began at 7 am at 59 degrees and ended at 11 am at 71
degrees under fair skies. We observed (saw or heard) 42 species.
The bird noted for its absence from detection was the *Swainson's
Thrush*. *Lazuli
Bunting* numbers are declining but *Western Wood-Pewees* remain numerous.
We were happy to see two *Pileated Woodpeckers* on the River Walk returning
to parking lot 3.
The next field trip is the *Ankeny NWR field trip* on *Tuesday, August 22nd
at 7:00 AM.* Meet at the Overlook off of Ankeny Hill Road. The next *SAS
Shorts* is at Minto-Brown Island Park on *Thursday, August 24th at 6:00 PM.*
