Interesting topic as we see R-B Sapsuckers in our area with regularity, I had
not recognized this as perhaps unusual.
Our neighborhood is along the Willamette between Oregon City and Milwaukie. One
or two pair are known to nest nearby.

Noticed Lars Norgren's speculation that Red-breasted Sapsuckers nesting
in riparian areas of the Willamette Valley floor. Indeed they do.
I've attached a couple of blurry photos which may or may not come
through via OBOL, showing pre- and post-copulatory views of a pair at
the north trailhead of Luckiamute State Natural Area a few years back.
Shot with a Nikon Coolpix with an ill-behaving autofocus, don't expect
too much ...
