The Prineville CBC was very successful yesterday. We tallied 88 species (one feeder watcher yet to report). Thanks to all 23 people who participated. Special thanks go out to Patti Van Vlack and Kim Kathol who birded isolated locations and added 8 species that no one else could find. There were three species new to the count this year (Gray Jay, Double-crested Cormorant and Red-shouldered Hawk). Overall numbers were just about average (12,523 birds tallied). We tied or set high count records for the following species: Tundra Swan (24), Cooper's Hawk (8), Sora (4), Downy Woodpecker (6), Hairy Woodpecker (9), American Dipper (1) and Lesser Goldfinch (182). Major misses included Barrow's Goldeneye (seen 25/34 counts), Marsh Wren (seen 29/34 counts), Western Meadowlark (first time we've ever missed this species).
