I have been photographing birds for about 7 1/2 years and saw and
photographed my first Merlin yesterday at Pintail Marsh at Ankeny NWR. I
went to Pintail from about 1:30 to sunset. Lots of activity, Peregrine
Falcon, Tundra Swans, Canada Geese, many species of Ducks. We had some
action when a Red-tailed Hawk showed up and the Peregrine Falcon chased it
out of it's hunting territory. Also the Peregrine knocked a flying duck
right out of the sky. I watched as the duck fell straight to the ground
and then saw the Peregrine eating it on the far shore at Pintail Marsh.
The wildlife there put on quite a show. Click on link below for some
