As I drove in to my yard this evening at 6:30 pm I was surprised to find,
illuminated in the headlights, a BARRED OWL sitting in the middle of our
lawn! It quickly flew up and perched on a low branch of our memosa tree,
where it sat looking around for about five minutes before flying on to our
oak tree and then our fir tree. Very cool!
We've never seen or heard this species before in our area, which is not
very well-treed. Quite a surprise!
