Hi - This morning, as cold rain melted off the remaining snow, open spaces around Newport teemed with Killdeer, American Pipits, Meadowlarks, and Starlings. At 10 AM 0ver 2000 Killdeer were on the beach between the North Jetty and the Nye Beach turnaround, along with a few hundred pipits. Dozens of pipits were feeding in the short grass along the South Jetty road. At least 3 snipe and a Least Sandpiper were also feeding there. A few Yellow-rumped Warblers were also feeding on the ground. Starlings are abundant here anyway, but they appeared in big flocks in places I have not seen them recently. Varied and Hermit thrushes, and Robins were also much in evidence. Wayne
